Horstead Day 1

The Year 4 and 5s have had a wonderful first day on their residential at Horstead. After a short bus journey the children arrived in time for a walk down to the river for lunch. There they enjoyed lunch with the local wildlife. A visit from a swan and heron amongst the main attractions. After that, it was back to the centre to get ready for the first activity.

Group 1 got stuck into some environmental art. First they gathered materials they could use from the local environment, visiting all four coners of the site in search of the best leaves, sticks, feathers and stones. Once back in the front garden it was time to create their own pieces of art and the results were truly breathtaking!

Meanwhile, group 2 tackled the heights of the crate stack. All children over came fears and nerves to balance on the crates that towered high up into the trees! There was wonderful teamwork and support offered to all. From the days tallest tower, to the most determined to overcome their fear all the children acheived success and supported each along the way.

A delicious dinner which included jacket potatoes, sausages and marble cakes meant all the children went out to the evening activites with full bellies. We rounded off a brilliant day with a camp fire. We roasted marshmallows, told jokes and shared stories. Whilst some of the roasting skills were not of masterchef standard, they went down a treat! We all headed off to bed full of excitement for tomorrow. I am sure we will enjoy day 2 even more than day 1 after a well earned rest!
