Hilltop 2024 Day 2
After a fairly good sleep and a delicious breakfast we were ready to start day 2.
Group 1 began with The Tree Top Trail - a huge challenge for anyone who is even a little worried about heights. Wobbly bridges, staircases, barrels, skateboards - all were necessary to navigate our way around around this very high trail. There were quite a few nerves, however everyone successfully completed the trail, with several children choosing to take the highest course possible. There were some superb examples of team work, kindness and words of encouragement as we went around - well done Group 1!
Meanwhile Group 2 set off on The Journey - a hike into Sherringham via an old monastery. Map reading was a high priority and they managed to successfully navigate their way to an ice cream in the middle of town. The walk back seemed a little longer than on the way there and everyone was very tired but they managed it and were quite proud of themselves.
Lunch was sausage roll, salad and some rather delicious cake. Then it was time for the afternoon activities.
Group1 set off to Sherringham for their 'Journey' and they really set a good pace. So much so that there was time for a play on the beach after their ice-cream before heading back to Hilltop.
Group 2's legs had recovered just in time for another climb - this time to the area of the woods where they would be building fires. Collecting just the right wood was hard enough but they also had to battle a rather brisk wind so the fires took a lot of effort. Mrs Sparrow was particularly impressed with their team work today. After much perseverance, their fires were hot enough for marshmallows and hot chocolate.
Most children decided to go for a bracing swim in the outdoor pool which was apparently 'Fantastic' and 'Really cool.' After a hot shower it was time for dinner and another activity - this time it was 'Mad Hatters' which involved a lot of running and some fabulous head gear. Whilst the children were running around enthusiastically, some of the staff began the room inspections.
Room inspections are a serious business and most children had put in a lot of effort. Marks were given for cleanliness, tidiness, freshness and creativity. Well done to all the Laxfield children who all did a marvellous job.
