Art & Design

At All Saints, our Art curriculum aims to nurture creativity, self-expression, and technical skill development across all year groups, including the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We believe that art provides children with a vital opportunity to explore their imagination while developing a broad range of skills that progress thoughtfully throughout their school journey.

In EYFS, children engage with sensory experiences and exploratory mark-making, laying the foundation for artistic expression. In Years 1 and 2, pupils begin to experiment with various materials and simple techniques, focusing on observation and basic skill-building. By Years 3 and 4, children extend their knowledge through more complex techniques, exploring different media such as drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and sculpture. In Years 5 and 6, students refine their skills further, combining creativity with critical thinking and personal expression.    Throughout all of our units, children have the opportunity to explore a range of significant artists, critically analysing their work (in age specific ways) and learning how their work has impacted the development of artistic styles and movements over time.

Our curriculum emphasises the progression of artistic skills and the confidence to experiment across a wide range of media, encouraging pupils to find their unique style and voice. Through art, children learn to communicate ideas, emotions, and cultural understanding and hopefully developing a lifelong appreciation of creativity.
